OpenAI Developers announced a simpler API usage-tier structure and a lower qualification threshold for the highest rate-limit tier. Existing paid organizations move automatically.

X syndication verifies both original provider-account posts, their author and their 18:33 UTC timestamps. The first post names the new Build, Launch and Grow tiers and lowers the highest-tier payment threshold from $1,000 to $500.

The follow-up says paid organizations move automatically and require no action. OpenAI links organization administrators to the Platform limits page for current qualifications and rate limits.

The announcement concerns OpenAI API organizations. It does not say that current counters are cleared, balances are replenished or ChatGPT and Codex subscription allowances change.

This is filed as a verified usage-policy change. It stays outside confirmed reset history, the reset calendar and subscriber reset alerts.

What it means

  • OpenAI is replacing five paid API usage tiers with three named tiers: Build, Launch and Grow.
  • The payment threshold for the highest tier falls from $1,000 to $500 in total API payments.
  • Paid API organizations move automatically; OpenAI says no action is required.
  • This changes API rate-limit qualification. It is not a usage reset and does not establish new ChatGPT or Codex subscription limits.
