The beat starts, as far as our receipts go, on a Saturday morning in Pacific time with a man clearing everyone's meters and telling them to enjoy the weekend. Eighteen words. No incident. No number. No thread.
Everything this newsroom covers is downstream of that posture: the limits are a dial, the dial is in reach, and the person holding it posts. By August the same act would come with milestones, nicknames and a 25 million toast. In May it came with an exclamation mark.
